Canada: Defence Minister Anita Anand announces NATO tank squadron deployment in Latvia– June 16, 2023

Defence Minister Anita Anand holds a virtual news conference from Brussels following her participation in a two-day meeting with her NATO counterparts. The defence minister announces that Canada will deploy a squadron of Leopard 2 tanks to Latvia in order to bolster NATO’s defence capacities in the region. Responding to questions from the media, Anand comments on Canada’s lack of participation in a major NATO air defence exercise currently underway in Germany and on the possibility of Ukraine joining the transatlantic security alliance.
