In 2019, Walter Piehl, Jr was honored with an induction into The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, recognizing his remarkable contributions. Prior to that, he served as a board member for several years. Walter's diverse background encompasses various roles such as working on the family ranch, participating in rodeos as a competitor, announcing rodeo events, showcasing his talent as an accomplished western artist, and working as a teacher, among other pursuits. Currently, his artwork is being featured in an exhibition at The Bismarck Art & Galleries Association, located at 422 E Front Avenue in Bismarck. Additionally, the entertaining duo of Doug Pfliger and Ned Krouse, known as Doug and Walter's Dog and Pony Show, has made a comeback!

In an engaging conversation reminiscent of skipping a rock across a deep river, Walter sits down with Wild Bill, a prominent figure from The North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame. They explore the many layers of Walter's success and accomplishments, delving into his inspiring journey.

Another remarkable endeavor involving youth and horses is the combination of teaching and learning. A local "day camp" offers an adventure with horses, where North Dakota youth rodeo competitors guide their peers through the fundamentals of horsemanship. The activities range from catching and grooming horses to saddling up and riding in the arena and out on trails. This unique opportunity allows students without access to horses to gain firsthand experience and discover the world of horsemanship. Tisa Peek, from Dakota Horse Magazine, interviews several young female instructors and students at JT Family Equine, capturing their insights and experiences.

Turning our attention to the Hall of Honorees, Dean Armstrong takes the spotlight as this week's inductee. Born on June 19, 1930, to Hugh Hunt and Gladys Bell (Smith) Armstrong, Dean spent his formative years in Steele and at Sentinel Butte. Following in his father's footsteps, who was also a cowboy and the producer of the Diamond Bar Wild West Show that traveled across the United States, Dean embarked on his own rodeo career. Alongside five other talented North Dakota cowboys, known as the 'Six Pack,' Dean competed in rough stock and bulldogging events, earning him all-around honors and substantial prize money.

Recognizing the remarkable achievements of young rodeo athletes, the Dakota Cowboy Student Rodeo Athlete of the Week features 10-year-old Chaz Kurle from Wilton Public School. Displaying exceptional talent and dedication, Chaz won his first saddle at the age of 6 and has since accumulated over 60 buckles in various competitions.
