2023 Candidate for Tacoma City Council Position 8-At Large - Hunter Henderson

Hunter Henderson is a dedicated candidate running for Tacoma City Council Position 8 - At Large in the upcoming August 2023 election. With a strong commitment to the community and a passion for public service, Hunter is determined to bring positive change to Tacoma.

Born and raised on Hilltop, Hunter has deep roots in the area. Throughout his life, he has advocated for tribal voices and worked to promote the well-being of tribal communities. As an AmeriCorps member, Hunter organized a traditional camas harvest and initiated a harvest of pacific yews, demonstrating his respect for the people and communities who have cared for the land since time immemorial.

Hunter's involvement in various organizations and his educational background have prepared him for the challenges of public office. He graduated from UWT with a major in Environmental Studies and minors in Restoration Ecology and Hispanic Studies. Hunter also holds a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) with an emphasis in Environmental Policy. His experience serving Pierce County Parks and Recreation as an AmeriCorps member, along with his current role as a Transportation Planner at The Washington State Department of Transportation, have equipped him with valuable skills and insights into community needs.

Hunter's campaign focuses on key areas for the future development of Tacoma. He aims to update outdated Tacoma Municipal Codes (TMC) to ensure they serve a diverse and inclusive community. Additionally, he emphasizes the creation of jobs for the future, particularly in technological chip production, trades, healthcare, and a sustainable maritime industry. Hunter envisions Tacoma as a thriving city that harnesses its potential for greatness by utilizing its deep natural port, preserving its infrastructure, and nurturing its diverse population.

Moreover, Hunter is passionate about addressing important issues such as affordable housing, environmental justice, and road maintenance. He believes in data-driven decision-making and aims to implement policies that are backed by evidence and promote positive change. Hunter's ultimate goal is to serve the people of Tacoma and create a city that offers a high quality of life for all residents, while preserving its unique environment and promoting economic prosperity.
