A campaign has been launched to clean up the ancient city of Hatra, southwest of the city of Mosul. The campaign, led by the Khaloha Ajmal Foundation with the support of the Recovery Programme funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), includes the installation of lighting in the Kingdom's temples, gateways, and outer walls, and a cleaning campaign involving 40 volunteers over 3 days. Founded in the 3rd century AD in the city of Hatra, 110 km southwest of Mosul, the kingdom lasted for a hundred years and was ruled by 4 kings. The Kingdom of Hatra is one of the oldest Arab kingdoms.
