The convent of São Domingos was founded in 1563 by the newly appointed archbishop D. Friar Bartolomeu dos Mártires. The church, named after Santa Cruz, began construction in 1566 to be completed ten years later. Today, the convent is the seat of the Parish of Monserrate.
