78 dead, 104 rescued after boat carrying migrants capsizes near Greece

Rescue operations were underway on Wednesday following the capsizing and sinking of a fishing vessel carrying migrants in the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 54 miles off the coast of Pylos, Greece.

According to the Greek Coast Guard, at least 104 individuals have been rescued, while tragically, 78 people have lost their lives, ABC News has reported.

Early estimates, yet to be confirmed, suggest that there may have been hundreds of migrants on board, potentially reaching up to 650, when the boat started to sink around 2:30 a.m. local time.
