Cold Exposure For Aches and Pain

One of the many things I love about my intentional cold exposure is the relief I get from aches and pains. For centuries, humans have used cold temperatures for therapeutic purposes. This type of cold therapy is typically referred to as cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy causes blood vessels to constrict, minimizing inflammation and swelling, which is tied to pain, and it may also reduce sensitivity to pain. It can also reduce delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and accelerate healing.

Exposure to cold temperatures also triggers norepinephrine. The boost in norepinephrine you’ll get from deliberate cold exposure has been shown to be up to 200-300% and lasts well after the cold exposure. Studies have shown that this powerful neurotransmitter will not only improve mood, focus, and attention it can also dramatically reduce swelling and relieve pain.

Are you dealing with some aches and pains? If you haven’t yet, maybe it’s time to give cold therapy a try.
