Darhen to Yamdwar Drive

The drive from Darchen to Yamdwar is a popular route undertaken by pilgrims during the Mansarovar Yatra. Darchen is a small town located in the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China, and Yamdwar is the starting point for the circumambulation (parikrama) of Mount Kailash.

The journey from Darchen to Yamdwar covers a distance of approximately 6 kilometers (3.7 miles). It is usually done by vehicles, such as buses or jeeps, as the terrain can be challenging for walking. The road passes through scenic landscapes, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

As pilgrims embark on the drive, they are filled with a sense of anticipation and devotion. The atmosphere is charged with religious fervor, as they prepare themselves for the sacred parikrama of Mount Kailash. The drive itself can be quite exhilarating, with winding roads and changing elevations, as the route gradually takes them closer to Yamdwar.

Upon reaching Yamdwar, pilgrims disembark from their vehicles and prepare to begin the circumambulation of Mount Kailash. Yamdwar, also known as Tarboche, is a significant point where religious ceremonies and rituals take place. It is believed to be the gateway to the sacred Mount Kailash.

From Yamdwar, pilgrims commence their parikrama, walking in a clockwise direction around Mount Kailash. The circumambulation is usually done on foot, and it covers a distance of approximately 52 kilometers (32 miles). The entire parikrama can take several days, depending on the pace of the pilgrims and their physical capabilities.
