Joris-Karl Huysmans (French fin-de-siècle author): 'Against Nature' (1884), on moral degeneracy of the ruling classes. 'The Dammed' (La-Bas) (1891), on Gilles de Rais, French aristocrat, 14th century (inspired by Blue Beard? - inspired the Marquis de Sade); on anti-Catholicism: 'the demonic', 'satanism', 'black Masses' etc; On Route (1895); The Cathedral (1898); The Oblate (1903) reverting back to Catholicism.
