GET OFF THE ROOFTOP AND STAY IN THE BATTLE

There is an old axiom that says, "Idle hands are the devil's workshop." Living as long as I have and knowing biblical history, that statement was not made up out of thin air. The stories in our modern day are abundant of wealthy and affluent people's children who fail in life. Especially if the parents have become rich in one generation, they have the attitude they don't want their children to suffer any hardships, so they supply all their needs and wants.
The Proverbs warn us about the man who lays on his bed and turns over like the swinging of a gate. The prediction for that man is that he will come to want or poverty.
Two illustrations in the Old Testament illustrate this principle of life.
The first is when King David stayed home from the battle and lounged on his rooftop. Because he was out of his place of anointing, he saw Bathsheba on the rooftop below. That's where his life changed because of the decisions that he made.
David belonged in the battle. God created him to lead Israel to victory by conquering the enemy and defending his people. Because he was out of his calling, he committed immorality and murder, resulting in his son's death.
The second illustration is the children of Israel as they made their way toward Canaan land. The commandment of the Lord was to march forward to the promised land that God designed for them. When they allowed obstacles and problems to take their eye off the ball or the call, they began complaining and wanting to return to Egypt.
Faith only operates when you're going forward and in the battle. When you goof off on the rooftop instead of standing in your place in the kingdom, all sorts of distractions will come your way to deny your victory.
Stay in the battle, friends. That's where the joy of the Lord is really sweet.
