Canada: Federal ministers provide update on wildfires – June 12, 2023

On Parliament Hill, federal ministers provide an update on the government’s response to wildfires that are burning in several provinces. Taking part in the update are ministers Bill Blair (emergency preparedness), Patty Hajdu (Indigenous services), Sean Fraser (immigration) and Anita Anand (national defence). There are currently 431 wildfires burning across the country, 208 which are considered to be out of control. Close to 32,000 people remain under evacuation orders and 4.7 million hectares of forest have been burned. There are more than 1,000 members of international firefighting services who are helping Canada battle the wildfires.
