The Tallahassee Police Department posted body-camera footage of an alleged "ambush" on officers by a woman, who reportedly opened fire on them, prompting them to shoot and kill her.

TPD posted nearly 16 minutes of edited and redacted video footage of the May 26 incident at Tom Brown Park. It shows officers race for cover and fire from multiple positions in the park during the encounter with the woman, Asia Fitzgerald, 25. It also shows Fitzgerald on the ground and gravely wounded with the rifle she allegedly used beside her. She died later that morning at a local hospital.

Seven TPD officers and a Leon County deputy shot at the woman during the encounter, which happened as police were searching for a man suspected of trafficking in heroin and other drugs. In a news release, Police Chief Lawrence Revell praised their actions.

"While this situation is one we never want to face, our officers receive regular training in areas such as officer ambush and active assailant responses," Revell said. "The actions of officers in this incident are a testament to their level of preparation and heroism when encountering dangerous situations that pose a threat to our community."
