Listen to Dr. Tom Roselle, DC discuss fibromyalgia and your joint spaces. Dr. Roselle clarifies that fibromyalgia does not affect your joint space even though it feels like it is your joints. Fibromyalgia is a progressive syndrome that is a central pain pattern that affects all four quadrants.

Fibromyalgia must present a history of pain in all four quadrants of the body lasting more than 3 months. Pain in all four quadrants means that you have pain in both your right and left sides, as well as above and below the waist.

Dr. Roselle also discusses wind-up pain. Wind-up pain is caused by a series of events in synapses and in nerve cells. This condition is known as central sensitization or wind-up phenomenon and leads to nonresponsive or chronic intractable pain.
