Wat Ubosatharam วัดอุโปสถาราม (Wat Bot Manoron) - Uniquely Styled Temple - Uthai Thani Thailand 2023
Wat Ubosatharam is a temple in Uthai Thani city on the river bank of Sakae Krang River. The temple can be seen from the Uthai Thani fresh market, which is across the Sakae Krang River. It’s worth crossing the river to visit the temple Wat Ubosatharam. Wat Ubosatharam was formerly know as ‘Wat Bot Manoron’ and was believed to have been built in the early Rattanakosin period.
Wat Ubosatharam, also known as Wat Bot Manoron, sits immediately to the east of Uthai Thani at a bend alongside the Sakae Krang river.
Although small, the temple is built to a high degree of craftsmanship and includes a number of mural paintings believed to have been made during the reigns of the Rama III or IV.
The mural paintings, which depict the life of the Buddha from birth to parinirvana, are clustered primarily on the interior of the wihan (assembly hall) and in the ubosot (ordination hall). There are also high-quality mural paintings on the exterior north-facing wall of the viharn that appear to depict the shrine of the Buddha's footprint at Saraburi.
The temple is oriented southwest toward downtown Uthai Thani. The wihan and the ubosot are roughly the same size and sit side by side on an elevated terrace. Three small chedis share the same terrace and stand in a row to the southwest. Each of them is built in a different style, with the north chedi constructed in Ayutthaya style, the middle chedi in Rattanakosin style, and a bell-shaped Sukhothai-style chedi in the south.
In front of the terrace stands a unique octagonal mondop which shows European design influences such as semi-circular arches.
The temple was also visited by the Thai king Rama V. He came by boat on the Sakae Krang River. The boat he used is on display at the temple.
The temple is small but located near the old town. The styling is very nice and worth a visit if you are in the area.
