How "Tear Da Club Up" Got Banned From Every Club In The South

American hip hop trio Three 6 Mafia released the song "Tear da Club Up" as their single. It was created by members DJ Paul and Juicy J and served as the first single off their 1995 studio debut, Mystic Stylez. The song was included in a remix titled "Tear da Club Up '97" on the band's third studio album, Chapter 2: World Domination (1997).
When the song was first published in 1995, "Nadia's Theme," the well-known theme tune of the television soap opera The Young and the Restless, was sampled. The group had a small hit with it. "Tear da Club Up" is regarded as the start of Three 6 Mafia's transition from horrorcore to more aggressive music for clubs and as an early example of the popularity of crunk music in the early 2000s.
The song was eventually altered into "Tear da Club Up '97," which included vocals from every member of Three 6 Mafia and replaced the sample of "Nadia's Theme" with that of "Theme from S.W.A.T." (from the 1975 TV series S.W.A.T.). This remix served as the lead single from the group's second album Chapter 2: World Domination.
The song was notably banned from nightclubs in the South for inciting fan riots.
