The Castellammarese War was fought from February 1930 to April 1931 between the rival families of Joe Masseria and Salvatore Maranzano. After Maranzano's side wins, he established the infamous 5 families of New York and declares himself "capo di tutti capi" or boss of all bosses. However, doing so angers Lucky Luciano who takes Maranzano out and creates "The Commission'' and the Mafia begins to take shape how we know them today.
