Most people are aware of what the conscience is yet do not fully give much more thought on it. We are all aware of sayings like "My conscience would not permit me to do it." Or, "I felt strongly in my conscience not to go on that trip," or "take that job." There are many endless scenarios.

Charles Spurgeon said "The soul is the officer of God." Oswald Chambers referred to it as "The eye of the soul." The conscience is a God-given capacity for human beings to exercise the will of God.

It is a part of the soul and the place where the Holy Spirit directs our steps in life. It is the deepest place of instruction, direction and conviction.

Oswald Chambers said, "When the Holy Spirit is educating you down to the scruple, never disregard the slightest touch, because that is the thing He is detecting in you."

It is the place where His voice is heard. It is the exact same "still small voice" that Elijah heard which was more powerful than the earthquake, wind and fire. Your inner ear must become sensitive to the smallest whispers.

If you are in the habit of of steadily facing yourself with God, your conscience will always introduce God's will and law for you to do. Seek for the highest way and you will always be led in river-lined paths of Jesus Christ.

"When obedience to God contradicts what I think will give me pleasure, let me ask myself if I love Him." ~ Elisabeth Elliot
