Based on his own short story of the same name, Ian Rankin’s play is set in Edinburgh in 1794. France is in revolution and Edinburgh is home to many French exiles. English spies are roaming the city garnering information about local revolutionaries.

Alexander Morton stars as Mr Cullender, a caddie and manservant who is trying to solve a double murder in this period mystery, in which Sir Walter Scott also appears as a character.
