Upgrade Your Laptop to TRIPLE DISPLAYS with the FOPO S17 15" Monitors!
In this episode, we unbox, set up, and test out a triple monitor setup designed for you to be able to expand your laptop screen space to TRIPLE DISPLAYS with the FOPO S17 15".
I have been spoiled for the last 10 years plus working on multiple monitors on my computers. I remember when I first got dual monitors, it was a life-changing event. Then in recent years, I started working with three monitors, and it is so convenient. One monitor has my working files, one has Photoshop open, and the other has my video editing software open, and it is just amazingly convenient. The downside with this setup? It's not portable! That's where the team from Fopo has stepped up to send us their S17 15" monitor setup.
While I call it a triple monitor setup, only two additional screens are in the box. The third screen is what the other two attaches to, your laptop display. It utilizes an extendable center section between the two monitors to open and close around the side of your existing laptop monitor.
One of the things that people may be concerned about is the weight on your laptop hinge and how that would affect the overall life of your system. That's been taken into consideration as an adjustable kickstand is included on the right rear portion of the mount. You can extend it or retract it depending on the angle of your laptop screen, this way it removes some of the strain from your hinge. I'd personally prefer if there were dual kickstands like this, that way each side would be supported, but this is decent for right now.
Fopo includes a ton of different cables to get you connected. USB-C to C, USB-A to C, HDMI to mini HDMI, there are tons of cables here. They also include a power supply in the event your computer does not provide enough power to operate the screens independently.
The screens themselves are, kind of basic to be honest with you. They are 1080p, 60Hz, very similar to what you would find on other individual portable monitors, simply in a unified casing. In fact, the menu system is identical to that which I've used on other portable monitor setups. One of the things I did not like is the buttons on the side and their functionality. One of the buttons did not work at all to navigate through the menu, and I kept getting mixed up which was the enter which was the back. Having something a little bit more elegant would be nicer.
During my testing, I was actually able to power both screens simply using a single USB-C to USBC cable, the power supply was not required for me. Again, your mileage may vary. The overall performance was okay, I wasn't expecting the world and this did not deliver the world. The colors were a bit washed out and soft, but everything worked as I needed it to. They say you can use these for gaming, I probably wouldn't recommend that. These tend to have a decent amount of lag built into them, plus why would you play a game connected to your laptop unless you're actually playing something like Xbox on PC? That whole concept just seemed weird.
Why it RoX:
- Triples the real estate space on my laptop screen
- My laptop powered it from the USBC ports
- So many cables included
- Carrying bag included
- Decently portable
What could be improved:
- Way expensive (Not worth $600)
- No way to lock the joiner once it is around your laptop screen
- Could use a second kickstand
- Washed out colors
- Not ideal for gaming
- Poor menu system navigation
- While somewhat portable, not really
Should you buy one?
I have been looking at one of these setups for a long time and I'm glad that I now have one. It's one of those that I can utilize in addition to my additional screens and really go ahead and be super productive. Are these the highest-quality displays? No. And for the price being charged they should really be a higher quality. But for me, looking at this from a productivity standpoint, these definitely get the job done and I will be using them well into the future.
