Ranking Top Arcade Games I Like vs Don't Like
I have admitted that my taste in games is pretty out there, but one of the things that really shaped my preferences was heading to the local arcade and pumping in a bunch of quarters. Check out my Ranking of Top Arcade Games I Like vs Don't Like.
Final Fight:
I first played this on vacation in the Wisconsin Dells, and I was blown away at how good this game looked, sounded, and played. Whether I was playing as Cody, Guy, or Haggar, I loved this game. It should come as no surprise as this was the first Arcade 1Up cabinet I got as well.
Gauntlet:
I could just never get into Gauntlet, either on the NES or in the arcade. I just don't get into magic/mystical/medieval-era games and Gauntlet was all of those and more. For me this is always an easy pass.
Double Dragon:
I played so much Double Dragon at Sammy's Burger Place in my home town, and it was such a great experience. Anytime you could get 2 player co-op going too, man, so much fun!
Centipede:
I don't know if it was the trackball vs a joystick, the fact that I have never been good at it, or what, but I have never understood the love for Centipede. It could be because I first played it on the Atari 2600, and that wasn't a great experience or what, I just never got into it.
Golden Axe:
Everything I mentioned about Gauntlet applies to Golden Axe. It's got too much magic and medievalism in it for my taste, even though it's more of a hack-and-slash.
NBA Jam:
BOOM-SHAKKALAKKA! This was a game I played a ton at S&N's Trackside Hobbies with my late friend Chris, and we were damn good at it too. The action was over the top, great music, you could play AS A PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! NBA Jam is so good!
Tekken:
My dislike for Tekken comes mostly from a preference for Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat in arcades. I didn't like the graphics of the early games, and I just preferred how other fighting games played instead.
APB:
I loved this game so much! Again, another game I played at Sammy's Burger Place, it was a driving game, a chase game, and a funny game. I have this now on the Lynx, and it's just not great, but the arcade one is awesome.
What are some of your favorite arcade games? Let me know!
