In this exclusive interview with Elaine Beck, Congressman Dan Bishop (R-NC) strongly counsels against seeking one’s own fame, fortune, or career above the interests of the American people.

“God wants us to take care of the American people,” Congressman Bishop said. “Don't get trapped in your own importance. The most empowering thing in Washington, I can tell you, Elaine, is not to need anything and not to want anything. If you don't want a position and you don't want to be the chairman of a committee, then you don't have to cave in. God doesn't want us to act for our own advantage. He doesn't want us to act for position or power.”

He admits that this kind of godly leadership is divergent from the disappointing and self-serving leadership Republicans have churned out for decades — and breaking through that status quo of mediocrity is why he chose not to give Kevin McCarthy the speakership of the U.S. House of Representatives without a fight.
