How could the animals find their way into Noah's ark?

Animals, by nature, are often resistant to human control and guidance; but when it was time for the animals to enter the ark, we were told in the biblical account that they entered with no commotion, confusion or chaos.

How did the animals "know" that they were supposed to enter the ark? And what could this possibly mean?
