Year of the Arabs: Greek Muawiya inscription of Hammat Gader, 663 AD

In this Greek inscription, the year is referred to as the "year of the Arabs", instead of what we'd expect Anno Hijrah. What also is odd for a supposedly Muslim caliph - if Mu'awiya was that - is the use of a cross at the beginning of the inscription.
