In Ottawa, members of an all-party group of parliamentarians call on the Canadian government to grant honorary citizenship to Vladimir Kara-Murza, the imprisoned Russian activist. The opposition politician and journalist has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for what some allege are politically motivated charges stemming from his criticism of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They outline plans to table a motion in the Senate and the House of Commons prior to the summer recess to confer honorary citizenship to Kara-Murza. Taking part in the news conference are former Liberal MP and cabinet minister Irwin Cotler, Senator Ratna Omidvar, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, Senator Pierre Dalphond, Bloc Québécois MP Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe and NDP MP Heather McPherson.
