HOLY SPIRIT- THE ENGAGEMENT RING OF HEAVEN

The year was 1968, the month was March, and the day was the 13th. That point of reference altered my life and gave me the last 55 years. When I saw her picture on the mantle of a friend's house on Sunday afternoon, I jokingly said, "I'm going to marry that girl." 5 1/2 months later, we walked the aisle together.
An old song from the last Century says, "Love and marriage go together like a horse and carriage." So now that I was madly in love, marriage was the next step.
However, before that would happen, I needed an engagement ring.
I had nothing of value to offer this beautiful, wonderful girl I had just met, so I depended on the Lord's help for favor.
Between the evangelistic meetings I was doing, I worked with my dad painting houses. I collected enough money to start shopping for an engagement ring and found one I could afford for $125.
On the way home from a Billy Graham meeting in Portland, we stopped at Multnomah Falls, and I presented my $125 treasure and asked for her hand in marriage. By a miracle of God, she said yes.
Contained in that engagement ring was a future yet to be unfolded ahead of us. We had no idea what God would do and how gracious he would be to us.
Arlis took that ring as an earnest promise for the 55 years and counting we've had together.
According to Ephesians 114, in the passion translation, the Holy Spirit was given to us as an engagement ring of God's glory, yet to be revealed. Consider what lies ahead of us when we consider the power of glory and wonder if what we know about the Holy Spirit is just the down payment.
