This variation has been floating around social media recently & it’s a waste of your time⏰
There aren’t too many “BAD” exercises out there, but in the context of growing your chest, this is a BAD exercise. Building muscle comes down to 2 things: Mechanical Tension & Progressive Overload. The sensation (mind-muscle connection) of an exercise is irrelevant in producing new muscle tissue.

This exercise is difficult to load because the ROM isn’t ideal for the pecs…IT’S ACTUALLY A TRICEP EXERCISE. As mentioned in the video, the arm path mimics a Close Grip Pushup or a DB Squeeze Press, both of which are also poor chest exercises. For everyone that’s inevitably going to say “you don’t know what you’re talking about…I grew my chest with those exercises😡,” this is for you: just because there are better options, doesn’t mean you CAN’T grow your chest by doing these (especially if you’re new to the gym). In other words, there’s multiple ways to get to the destination, but if you’d rather take a unicycle instead of an airplane, be my guest. Your elbow flexors (triceps & anconeus) have the best leverage to move the weight, so they’re gonna be the primary mover.

Do yourself a favor & stick to traditional variations of bench (db, bb, smith machine, etc) because you’ll be able to load your pecs more effectively, leading to better chest gains👍🏼
