Portage, Wisconsin site of such amazing history from the 1600's to today

Fort Winnebago in Portage, Wisconsin dating back to 1828, this area is also the sight of the Fox-Wisconsin Waterway, a portage between the Fox River and the Wisconsin River, which was recognized by Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet during their discovery of a route to the Mississippi River in 1673.
