In recent years, there have been several instances of Chinese individuals, disguised as tourists but suspected of being spies, attempting to gain entry to military facilities in the expansive state of Alaska, as reported by U.S. officials.

One incident involved a vehicle occupied by Chinese citizens that evaded a security checkpoint at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, according to accounts from several soldiers. Eventually, the vehicle was stopped, and a search revealed the presence of a drone inside. The occupants initially claimed to be lost tourists.

While some encounters have been attributed to innocent mistakes by foreign visitors eager to witness natural phenomena like the Northern Lights and explore Alaska’s attractions, there have been other instances where individuals sought access to U.S. military bases as apparent reconnaissance efforts to gather information on American military capabilities in the region, USA Today reported.
