National Child Protection Week is commemorated annually to raise awareness of the rights of children as articulated in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and The Children's Act (Act No. 38 of 2005). The campaign is led by the Department of Social Development, in partnership with key government departments and civil society organisations rendering child protection services.

As a child-focused organisation, efforts that go towards child-protection have been intensified. SOS Children’s Villages has recently trained more Child Safeguarding Investigators, who have the responsibility of safeguarding our children.

As we commemorate Child Protection week, new risks have arisen which we must also be aware of. Digitalization brings opportunities for growth and advancement, but it also presents several challenges in terms of cyber safety. SOS Children’s Villages is determined to be part of efforts to support children and young people at risk, to work towards a world that is safe for all children.
