Canada: Minister Bill Blair provides update on Canada's wildfire situation – May 29, 2023

Federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair provides an update on the wildfires that are burning in several provinces. His parliamentary secretary Stéphane Lauzon also speaks with reporters at the news conference on Parliament Hill. There are currently active wildfires in British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick. A wildfire has also recently developed in the Halifax area in Nova Scotia. Regarding the Alberta wildfires, on May 27 the federal government approved an extension of the military deployment in the province. Support from Alberta's original request for federal assistance will continue to be provided by various federal departments including the RMCP, Transport Canada, and Indigenous Services Canada.
