Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Accountability is being responsible or answerable for an action. In politics, both integrity and accountability are important values that individuals can exercise. There is overwhelming public appetite for stronger mechanisms to uphold integrity among politicians, including more powerful independent regulators.
The vast majority of voters want leaders to be held accountable through a system of checks and balances, but that’s not the Liberal Party of Canada way, is it!
Members of the public care deeply about honesty and integrity in their politicians. They support an independent and professional civil service, a stronger role for regulators, an ongoing, powerful role for the courts in preventing abuses, and deeper parliamentary scrutiny and accountability.
That’s not what we have in Canada!
