Mansa Musa, the monarch of Mali in the fourteenth century, may have been the richest person in history. His riches was unimaginable, and his empire stretched across the majority of West Africa. He embarked on his Hajj, a Muslim's once-in-a-lifetime journey to Mecca, in 1324. He made an elaborate 4,345 kilometer journey over the desert, accompanied by thousands of men carrying valuable things and dressed in the best silks. There were hundreds of creatures in the group. He spread a strange tale about his predecessor, who allegedly arrived in the Americas before the Europeans, amidst all the hoopla. Abu Bakr II allegedly left the Malian throne and set off on a massive voyage across the world
