Living in Paradise ! a lone saino wanders the Sanctuary

Peccary pigs (saino) still roam the mountains in our area, usually in groups.
An adult Peccary weighs between about 20-40 kg (44-88 lb).
The female gestational period is under five months, and females peccaries give birth to 1-5 babies, however, two babies is normal.
The Costa Rican Collared peccaries are born with either beige or chestnut coloring, and can run within hours of birth.
Young peccaries nurse for 6-8 weeks, and are totally independent within three months. As young, they usually connect to an adult in the group that is not always the birth mother. Females reach sexual maturity by one year.
Peccaries are targeted by poachers, they face extinction in some areas of Costa Rica.
