GENESIS PREDICTS RA-EL
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a song about an imperial kid named Rael.
Ra-El's hometown was Chicago, the place where Genesis started the first tour of this album, when Lord Ra-El was just a kid!
The rock band Genesis was formed in the year 1967, the same year that Lord Ra-El's earthly body was conceived.
Peter Gabriel was insistent on writing the story and all the lyrics himself for The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, which was unusual for the band.
The song tells the story of Rael, a poor brave boy from The Bronx. As "The Lamb," Rael goes on an adventure in New York City.
Peter Gabriel explained that the album was intended to be an intense story of a young rebellious hero in New York who would face challenges with family, authority, sex, love and self-sacrifice to learn a little more about himself. I wanted to mix his dreams with his reality, in a kind of urban rebel Pilgrim's Progress. Peter Gabriel spent a long time thinking of the name Rael, inspired by Ra the Sun God.
