Imagine finding out that the father of a missing child had made an impossible change to his account to police about what he did immediately before his child is supposed to have disappeared and the mother of the missing child also made impossible changes in her account to police regarding the moment of discovery ...

This happened with the release of the Portuguese Police investigation files into Madeleine McCann's disappearance in August 2008

These files are better known as the PJ files and can be viewed online by anyone at:

GERRY MCCANN'S FIRST POLICE STATEMENT, GIVEN THE DAY AFTER HE HAD REPORTED MADLEINE MISSING, WHICH HE SIGNED AS BEING TRUE

"In this way, at about 21.05 the witness came to the Club, entered the room using his respective key, the door being locked, went to his children's bedroom and checked that the twins were fine, as was Madeleine."

This means he:

- Exited tapas bar around 9pm
- Walked past the patio gate of 5a
- turned left at the top of the road
- Crossed the car park
- Entered the passageway
- Unlocked the solid wooden door of 5a with a key

GERRY MCCANN'S SECOND POLICE STATEMENT, GIVEN ONE WEEK AFTER HE HAD REPORTED MADLEINE MISSING, WHICH HE SIGNED AS BEING TRUE

"At 21H05 MATHEW returned, the time at which the deponent left the table to go to check how his children were. He followed the normal route up to the rear door, which being open he only had to move [slide] it, that being the way in which he entered [was entering] the lounge."

This impossible change in his account now means he:

- Exited the tapas bar around 9pm
- Stopped at the patio gate
- Entered through the patio gate
- Climbed the concrete patio steps
- Crossed the balcony
- Slid open the unlocked glass patio door

KATE MCCANN'S FIRST POLICE STATEMENT, GIVEN THE DAY AFTER SHE HAD REPORTED MADLEINE MISSING, WHICH SHE SIGNED AS BEING TRUE

"At around 10pm, the interviewee went to check on the children. She went into the apartment by the side door, which was closed but not locked, as she said before. She noticed that the door to her children's bedroom was completely open, the window was also open, the shutters raised and the curtains open, while she was certain of having closed them all as she always did."

Important to note she states:
- The door was completely open
- The curtains were open

TIMELINE PREPARED BY ALL OF THE TAPAS NINE, HANDED INTO THE PJ BY A BRITISH LIAISON OFFICER, ONE WEEK AFTER THE MCCANNS HAD REPORTED MADLEINE MISSING

"2200: (approx): KM leaves table to check children in 5A... She is about to leave, when she notices the bedroom door was open (approximately 60 degrees). She starts to close it and it slams... At this point, she notices that Madeleine is missing. She checks the other single bed in the room and also Kate and Gerry's beds. Then she double checks that Madeleine was not in her bedroom again. At this point, she notices the curtains blowing forward with a gust of wind. She runs over, pulls open the curtain and notices the shutter was
completely raised.."

Impossible changes:
- Door now slams first
- Kate opens the curtains herself

CONCLUSION

These impossible changes in the McCann's police statements indicate their accounts of that evening are fabricated and therefore Madeleine was not abducted
