Ja Morant’s Instagram posts prompt welfare check by police on Memphis Grizzlies star

A welfare check was conducted on Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant on Wednesday morning following a series of cryptic Instagram posts, and “he is fine,” a spokesperson from the Shelby County Sherriff’s Office confirmed to The Commercial Appeal.

Morant posted multiple messages and photos on his Instagram story about his mother, father, daughter and sister. His final post was a photo of him being interviewed after a game, with a caption that read, “bye.”

The NBA is investigating the video and could hand the all-star point guard a significant suspension to start next season. Morant was suspended eight games in March after an initial Instagram Live video also showed him with a gun in a Colorado nightclub.

“I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me,” Morant said in a statement, two days after the second incident. “This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”
