2023 Volkswagen Tharu in-depth Walkaround

The Volkswagen Tharu is a compact crossover SUV that is manufactured by the German automobile company, Volkswagen. Under the hood, the Tharu is powered by Volkswagen's new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

Depending on the drivetrain, the Tharu comes with different transmissions and rear suspensions. Front-wheel-drive models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while all-wheel-drive versions come with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The front-drive and all-wheel-drive Tharu also come with different rear suspensions, with the former using a torsion-beam setup and the latter using a more sophisticated multilink design. Despite the differences, during testing, the acceleration difference between the two drivetrains was negligible, with the front-wheel-drive Tharu beating the all-wheel-drive Tharu to 60 mph by only a tenth of a second. The Tharu also comes with a variety of wheel options ranging from 17 inches to 19 inches.

Additionally, every Tharu comes equipped with a sleek-looking infotainment system that includes a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. Standard features include a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while an 8.0-inch version is optional. The infotainment system can also be equipped with built-in navigation, an eight-speaker BeatsAudio stereo, SiriusXM satellite radio, and wireless smartphone charging.
