BEFORE embarking on the ride of her life thanks to her hit song “Keep Dat” going viral on TikTok, rapper and emerging hip-hop superstar ICandy was born Shakerria Davis on February 25th, 1996 in Pompano Beach, Florida. Growing up on the streets of Pompano, life came at Candy hard and fast -- and I mean that more or less literally because Candy used to run track. When she wasn’t hanging out after school vibing with her teenaged friends, you’d be just as likely to find her out on the grind, looking to make something of herself. And for Candy that grind has been music for about as long as she can remember. With the first life lesson she ever learned being to go hard for herself, Candy started making music at the age of 14 when her Godbrother brought her to a studio for the first time. From that point forward, the struggle of her everyday life motivated her to pursue music so that she could finally express herself exactly how she wanted to. Having been influenced by the likes of Nikki Minaj, Missy Elliott, and Lil Wayne, the first time Candy ever stepped foot into a studio, she was still 14 and she wouldn’t get more serious about music until she was 16. While “Keep Dat” might be the song that has her becoming a global star, when she was a student at Blanche Ely High School, ICandy released a track that turned her into a local sensation – a love song titled “Feelings”.
