What are Rogue Planets? Can they host life?

Rogue planets are planets that wander the galaxy without a star to orbit. They are thought to be formed when stars collide or when planets are ejected from their solar systems.
A new study suggests that rogue planets may have moons that could support life. The study, published in the journal International Journal of Astrobiology, found that the gravitational tug-of-war between a moon and its planet can keep certain satellites toasty enough for liquid water to exist there — a condition widely considered crucial for life.
The study's authors used computer simulations to model the orbits of moons around rogue planets. They found that, given the right orbit and atmosphere, some moons could stay warm for over a billion years.
This finding suggests that rogue planets may be more hospitable to life than previously thought. It also raises the possibility that life could exist on moons orbiting rogue planets that are billions of light-years away from Earth.
