CATEGORIES AND CLASSES
Participants are divided into 4 upper categories, including moustache, chin and cheek beards, full beard and whiskerinas (ladies category), with each upper category divided into different classes.

Classes where aids are allowed:
Legal styling aids for classes in which aids are allowed include beard wax, wax, hairspray, hair lacquer, gels, mousse and other hair products that give hair "hold" or texture.

Classes where no aids are allowed:
Participants in classes where no aids are allowed are not allowed to use any aids after the prejudging until after the end of the competition (preferably until the award ceremony), even if the beard is reworked. If this happens, the participant will be disqualified. Small amounts of balm, beard oil or other conditioners are not considered styling aids, unless they are used in excess. The beard should look natural and not too styled. Dyes are not allowed on Naturale beards.

In all classes, please note:
Face masks and heavily made-up faces are not permitted. The beard must stand out from the hair on the head and must not be integrated. The headgear must be chosen in such a way that the beard is easily recognizable and can be evaluated by the jury without hindrance. Illegal styling aids, such as unnatural or garish hair color, false facial hair, hair extensions and any form of hair pins or other foreign structural components, are strictly prohibited. the beard must comply with the regulations of the respective category even after the pre- jury to the competition!

Freestyle beards
The illustrations of the freestyle classes are purely symbolic. Your own imagination and creation is called for here. Each beard wearer should be able to bring his own beard into the appropriate shape. Assistance is allowed, but not a complete styling. The illustrations in the other classes can also only give a clue about the type of beard. The text for the respective category is binding. Everyone should wear his beard within the rules to match his face.

General note
It is important to know that a literal translation does not always ensure that the meaning is the same in both languages. An example is the word "beard" or "beard" in English. In German, "Bart" refers to all types and shapes of hair on the face underthe eyes and nose. In English, "beard" refers only to the types and shapes in which the chin area is covered with hair. The German word "Bart" is therefore better translated as "Facial Hair". So that the participants know which areas may be grown on, these areas are also shown in gray next to the categories

Entry deadline for participants and clubs as well as the transfer of the entry fee of 30 Euro must be made by May, 7th 2023. On the day of the competition, registration is still possible for last-minute participants. The entry fee must be paid at the latest at the final registration and pre-judging! Beard clubs can pay the total entry fee for their participants.

All participants have to register in the time of 10:00 to 12:00 and let the preliminary jury of the Association of German Beard Clubs (VDB) check the classification of the beard category. With the registration the participant accepts the conditions of participation. Without acceptance of the conditions of participation and payment of the entry fee, participation is not possible. Every beard wearer with a real beard, also without club membership, is entitled to participate. The participant agrees that the photos, videos, sound recordings and interviews made by him/her will be distributed and published without any claim to remuneration.

All participants will receive a certificate. The places 1 - 3 get an additional honorary prize.

The 10 bids and conditions for participation in beard competitions according to the guidelines and rules of the World Beard Championship 2023

1.Each participant must pay an entry fee on site and before the competition and have his chosen beard category checked by the preliminary jury provided and instructed by the VDB.

2.Participants in classes where no aids are allowed are not allowed to use any aids after the pre-judging until after the end of the competition (preferably until the award ceremony), in case of a possible finishing of the beard. If this happens, the participant will be disqualified.

3.The participants of the individual categories will be presented together to a seven-headed jury, which will make an open evaluation. The briefing of the jury will be done by the VDB.

4.Grading is done between 5 and 10 points, with half points possible.

5.The points 10, 9.5, 9 and 8.5 must and may be awarded only once in each subcategory to be evaluated.

6.The highest and lowest scores are not taken into account in the scoring.

7.Places one, two and three must be decided unambiguously. In the event of a tie, a run-off vote shall decide.

8.Protests by a competitor against jury decisions are not common in beard competitions and will result in disqualification. Only the President of the WBMA or a Vice-President of the WBMA may lodge a protest with the Jury.

9.All participants will receive a certificate. The winners of places 1 to 3 of each subcategory will receive a cup.

10.The participant of the beard competition agrees without restriction to the publication of picture and sound recordings, also of and with his person with the submission of the registration and the payment of the starting fee.
