Purple coneflower Echinacea purpurea is a perennial flowering plant native to eastern North America. It is known for its distinctive purple pink, daisy like flowers with a cone shaped center that blooms in mid to late summer and attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators to the garden. The plant grows best in USDA growing zones 3 to 9 and prefers full sun to partial shade and well draining soil that is moderately fertile. Purple coneflower is relatively low maintenance and can tolerate dry soil conditions. But regular watering during dry spells will help it thrive.
