RBI announced on 19 May, 2023 : "₹2000 Denomination Banknotes – Withdrawal from Circulation; Will continue as Legal Tender". According to it:
India introduced ₹2000 denomination banknotes in 2016 after the withdrawal of ₹500 and ₹1000 notes. Printing of ₹2000 notes stopped in 2018-19. As of March 2023, they constitute only 10.8% of Notes in Circulation and are not commonly used. Following the 'Clean Note Policy,' RBI decided to withdraw ₹2000 notes but they remain legal tender. Public can deposit or exchange them at banks until September 30, 2023. Exchange limit is ₹20,000 at a time from May 23, 2023. RBI has issued FAQs on their website for more information.
