With 300+ orchids in my collection, in a very dry S'ern Spanish climate for 80% of the time, the semi hydroponic set up is a go to as it helps with the micro climate around each individual pot, raising the humidity slightly. Group all the orchids together in a semi hydro set up, the result can be a slightly higher ambient humidity than what it would be if I were to cultivate my orchids in a wet dry cycle. So, why am I using the self watering configuration as well as the drainage holes version of semi hydro? Is self watering better than the standard semi hydro set up?
