Joshua: Partial Prayer, Partial Conquest - Prayers of Power, Unlocking Omnipotence (Part 14)

In this series on the prayers and pray-ers of the Bible we continue our journey through the Biblical narrative. In this study we explore prayer in the book of Joshua. There are many cautionary tales in Joshua which deeply impacted the conquest.

Joshua has six sections

1. Entering into Canaan (Joshua 1:1-5:12)
2. Wars against Canaanites (Joshua 5:13-11:23)
3. Division of the Land (Joshua 12:1-19:15)
4. (Joshua 20:1-21:24)
5. Threat of Civil War (Joshua 22:1-34)
6. Conclusion (Joshua 23:1-24:33)

God speaks to Joshua frequently - Joshua 1.1; 3.7; 4.1, 15; 5.2, 6; 7.10; 8.1, 18; 10.10; 11.6; 13.1; 20.1.

Examples of poor prayer in Joshua

1. Conditional based intercession. – Joshua 1:17-18
2. Petulant Lament – Joshua 7:7-9
3. Weak Confession – Joshua 7:20-21
4. Failure to pray – Joshua 9:14
5. Order instead of request – Joshua 10:12
6. Partial Blessings – Joshua 14:13; 22:6-7
7. Boastful Promise – Joshua 24:24
