The Challenges of Submarine RC Model Testing: Lessons Learned from the Pool

Hey guys, in this video, I'm sharing my journey of building a German U-boat RC model for recreating the final battle scene from the Greyhound movie. I already have the Catalina model, and now I'm building the U-boat RC model from scratch. I don't have any prior knowledge or experience of building an RC submarine, but I'm using my basic understanding of how submarines work.

To start with, I created a 3D model of the U-boat type VII with a length of 182 cm or about 71.8 inches using Blender. For the material, I decided to use PVC foamboard instead of foam board, as it is sturdier and easier to cut, shape, and assemble using my model making technique. While I won't be making a scale model, I aim to create a rough shape of the U-boat.

In this video, I won't be explaining how I built the model, but I will be showcasing its features. Just like a real submarine, it uses water ballast tanks with two pumps for filling and draining the tank, two servos (three if it uses a torpedo), a brushless motor, and ESC.

Before adding the final details and paint, I need to ensure that it works. It should be able to float and submerge under water, but not too deep - just at periscope depth. In my next video, I will go over the details of how I built this RC submarine for those interested in the process of DIY RC submarine building.
