The Easiest Thing You Need To Do Today | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | June 16, 2023

Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30

In chasing around a family of 7 (mom, dad, and 5 kids), a “day job” and a ministry, life can be a bit crazy at times. There are days in which I honestly don’t know if I am coming or going. I might be getting old (I am) but I’m having those moments where I walk into a room and have to privately think “Now what did I come in here for?” It seems like the more I have circling around in my brain, the more apt I am to forget. And the more apt I am to accomplish at least just one thing well. I don’t know…maybe it’s just me. But perhaps you can relate a bit and you have those days and moments too.

I love the promise in Matthew 11 in which Jesus simply starts out by saying “Come to Me.” That’s it. There are no strings attached; no conditions that must be met. And He follows up by saying “I will give you rest.” Hmmm. He must know I need it. He must know something I do not. The truth is, in all of my circling, the thing I’m often forgetting is Him. Spending time at His feet just refocusing and resting. He doesn’t add more to our plates. He doesn’t cause stress and fatigue to mount. In fact He wants to take those things from us. In return, He gives us a yoke that is easy; a burden that is light. That sounds good, doesn’t it? And it’s the easiest thing we need to do today!

Question for today: Have I rested in His presence today?

Pray: God for even just the 2 minutes it takes to read this devotional and pause today, allow me to rest in You and acknowledge that You are Lord over me. Thank You for allowing me to simply come to You.
