Senator Feinstein returns to the floor to vote on several bills this week, yet based on this reporting she maintains that she never missed votes due to illness. This is either expert dissembling or signs of dementia.

She’s not the only politician these days who seems to be impaired and yet maintains the support of her party in spite of (or because of?) her impairment.

The rise of the permanent administrative state runs the risk of turning political offices into figureheads, and a figurehead doesn’t need to be much more than a warm body.
