Adolf Hitler had joined the German Workers Party (DAP) and taken them from nothing to something. Previously a back room debating club rather than the political party it was advertised as, he had dragged them into a real force to be reckoned with. By 1922 it was one of the most popular movements in Bavaria and those in power were terrified. With crisis’ breaking out on Germany’s frontiers and the local government closing in on him, it was time for drastic action. He could do nothing and be banned from political life by Von Kahr, or he could make his move, legal or not.
