What are mitochondria, and why are they so important? You may have learned about mitochondria in grade 9 science. But these organelles are much more important than we originally understood. They live in almost every cell in our bodies, and they control how much energy we make... or don't make. They are affected by the light and environmental cues around us. And when they don't produce enough energy... that's when we get sick.
