Better Games on Genesis Vs Super Nintendo - Earthworm Jim

Have you ever wondered why people collect the same video game for multiple platforms? I do this, and sometimes it's because there are better things about different versions. Case in point, Earthworm Jim for the Sega Genesis and Sega Mega Drive is superior to the Super Nintendo Version. It pains me to say that but it's true.

The Super NES version does have a few minor advantages, mostly display related. For example, Earthworm Jim has more colors in its palette on the SNES than Genes, and it also features parallax scrolling for the backgrounds. From here, however, almost all of the advantages point to the Genesis version.

While the sound of the SNES is often touted as superior, the more metal and bass sounds that the Genesis produced just seemed to be better suited to the EWJ soundtrack Everything just slaps harder. The opening title sequence, the sound effects, and the dog and crows, all just sound better on Sega.

The game is also bigger on the Genesis cartridge, literally. there's an entire extra level that was missing and omitted from the SNES version to save space on the cartridge!! This is just one of the many reasons why when the Wii Virtual Console released a version of Earthworm Jim on it, they used the GENESIS and NOT The SNES ROM for the build! Even Nintendo knew the Genesis version was better!

This is just the first of many games I'll be making this comparison of, but what are some of the games you feel the Sega version was the definitive version of? Let me know in the comments!
